After breakfast at the hotel, we depart for Rabat, the country's capital. Surrounded by forests of eucalyptus and Portuguese cork oak, Rabat lies on the banks of the Bou Regreg River. The city has served as the capital since the exiled king announced his return from here. After visiting the Kasbah of the Udayas, Hassan Tower and the Mausoleum of Mohammed V, we depart for Fes. Following a walk past Bab el-Makhzen, the monumental gate of the royal palace, and through the surrounding Mellah Jewish Quarter, we tour the Medina. In Fes's labyrinthine streets, we see world-famous madrasas, Karaouine University, Nejjarine Square, the market selling traditional Moroccan jewellery and copperware, workshops producing some of the world's finest ceramics, and the tannery near the Fes River, where leather is still processed using traditional methods. After the tour, transfer to our hotel in Fes and free time. Dinner and overnight at our hotel.
