AvailableWe meet at the international departures terminal of Istanbul New Airport three hours before our flight. After baggage, ticketing and boarding formalities, we depart for Colombo on a scheduled Turkish Airlines flight. Overnight on board.
Upon arrival in Colombo, we board our private coach waiting at the airport and depart for our Pinnawala Elephant Orphanage tour. Along the way, we enjoy a buffet breakfast by the river. Established in 1975, Pinnawela Elephant Orphanage began with seven orphaned elephants. Today, some of these elephants have had the chance to see their grandchildren born in the same place. Originally established primarily for tourism, the orphanage soon became a conservation and education centre. During our visit, we can walk alongside the elephants and watch them wash themselves with their trunks. After the tour, we set off for Sigiriya. Transfer to our hotel and free time to relax. Dinner and overnight at our hotel.
Early in the morning, departure for our Sigiriya tour. Prepare to be amazed as we embark on a captivating journey to discover the ancient wonder of Sigiriya, Sri Lanka’s "Lion Rock" fortress! As we approach Sigiriya, we will be greeted by the towering presence of this legendary rock formation. Together, we will climb the magnificent Sigiriya Rock, following steep stairways and ancient paths to the summit. Along the way, we will admire the intricate frescoes adorning the rock face, each offering a glimpse of the artistic brilliance of a bygone era. At the summit, we will be rewarded with breathtaking panoramic views of Sri Lanka’s lush countryside. Together, we will stand atop this ancient fortress where kings once ruled and sought refuge. The ancient fortress and its surrounding gardens will unfold before us as a testament to Sri Lanka’s architectural and engineering skills. Our next stop will be the mysterious Lion Gate, Sigiriya’s most significant feature. Together, we will see the enormous lion paws guarding the entrance, a symbol of the fortress’s magnificent past. As we explore the ruins of the royal palace and admire the intricate water gardens below, we will travel back to an age of wealth and splendour. After the tour, we will return to our hotel for breakfast. We will then depart for our Dambulla Temple tour. As we enter the mystical surroundings of Dambulla, we will be welcomed by the serene atmosphere of this UNESCO World Heritage Site. Together, we will embark on a pilgrimage through five extraordinary cave temples, each a sanctuary of ancient art and spirituality. Dambulla is more than a collection of temples; it is a place of immense historical significance. Together, we will explore the rich history and cultural importance of these caves, where ancient kings sought refuge and left magnificent cave frescoes and statues that continue to inspire us today. Our journey through Dambulla will take us to the heart of Buddhism. Together, we will see intricate cave paintings depicting the life and teachings of Lord Buddha, offering insights into the profound philosophy that has shaped millions of lives. After the tour, transfer to our hotel and free time to relax. Dinner and overnight stay at our hotel.
After breakfast at the hotel, check-out and departure for Kandy. We will continue our journey with a visit to the Spice Garden. As we step into this lush paradise, a symphony of aromas will greet us. Together, we will stroll through vibrant greenery where cinnamon, cardamom, cloves and other exotic spices grow in abundance. Our journey will be a delight for the senses as we learn how these precious ingredients are cultivated, harvested and processed. We will discover the ancient trade routes that brought these spices to the island and their role in shaping the country’s culinary traditions. The Spice Garden is also a treasure trove of herbal remedies. We will discover medicinal plants and herbs used in traditional Ayurvedic medicine and learn about their healing properties. Together, we will learn how these age-old remedies remain widely used in Sri Lanka today. We will then begin our Kandy tour. As we enter Kandy, we will find ourselves in a world where tradition and history blend seamlessly with modern life. Sights on our tour include the Temple of the Tooth Relic. Kandy Lake is an oasis in the heart of the city. Together, we will enjoy a leisurely walk around the lake, taking in its peaceful beauty and views of the city. We will then depart for our Traditional Sri Lankan Show excursion. We will experience the rich and vibrant culture of Sri Lanka, the Wonder of Asia, through traditional music, drum rhythms and visual performances. After the tour, transfer to our hotel in Kandy and free time to relax. Dinner and overnight stay at our hotel.
After breakfast at the hotel, we will head to Kandy railway station. We will board the famous Sri Lankan train for our journey to Nuwara Eliya. As the train winds through the mountains into tea country, we will enjoy the scenery. Our luggage will follow us by coach to Nanu Oya station. During our Nuwara Eliya tour, we will also visit Gregory Lake. Known for its mountain air and scenery, Nuwara Eliya is both the heart of Sri Lanka’s production of the world’s finest tea and the country’s most popular holiday resort. Sri Lanka’s highest mountain, Pidurutalagala, is located here. After the tour, transfer to our hotel in Nuwara Eliya and free time to relax. Dinner and overnight stay at our hotel.
After breakfast at the hotel, we travel to Colombo via Kandy. Along the way, we visit Nuwara Eliya Tea Factory. Giragama is a well-known name when it comes to Ceylon tea. We visit the tea factory in Giragama for an authentic experience centred on a cup of tea. We watch how tea is processed before grading and enjoy a freshly brewed cup of Ceylon tea straight from the estate. After the tour, we transfer to our hotel in Colombo and enjoy free time to relax. Dinner and overnight at our hotel.
After breakfast at the hotel, we check out and depart for our Colombo city tour. Like many capitals in developing countries, Colombo has a changing skyline, with skyscrapers rising behind historic buildings. Nevertheless, it retains the charm of its older buildings, including the 100-year-old clock tower and numerous British colonial buildings. Another attraction is Pettah Market, where we can shop at affordable prices. Other sights include Hindu and Buddhist temples, residential areas with impressive houses, and the Bandaranaike Memorial International Conference Hall, a gift to Sri Lanka from the People's Republic of China. After visiting Gangaramaya Temple and the Colombo National Museum, we set off for Negombo. Gentle waves and golden sands provide the perfect setting for relaxation. Together, we explore the city's bustling streets, filled with colonial architecture and lively markets. We discover Negombo's rich heritage, shaped by Portuguese, Dutch and British colonial rule. We take in views of the sea and catamarans that form Negombo's backdrop, the lagoon famous for its lobsters, crabs and prawns, and the fish auctions. We visit the Dutch Fort and St. Mary's Catholic Church. Free time after the Negombo city tour. Dinner and overnight at our hotel.
