We will fly to Sharjah on a scheduled Air Arabia flight. Upon arrival in Sharjah, we will continue to Colombo on a scheduled Air Arabia flight. Upon arrival in Colombo, we will transfer to the city in our private coach waiting at the airport and begin our Colombo City Tour. Like many capitals in developing countries, Colombo has a changing face, with skyscrapers rising behind historic buildings. Nevertheless, it retains the charm of its older buildings, including a 100-year-old clock tower and numerous British colonial buildings. Another attraction is Pettah Market, where we can shop at affordable prices. Sights also include Hindu and Buddhist temples, residential areas with grand homes, and the Bandaranaike Memorial International Conference Hall, a gift to Sri Lanka from the People’s Republic of China. We will complete our tour with stops at Gangaramaya Temple and the Colombo National Museum. After the tour, return to our hotel and free time to relax. Dinner and overnight stay at our hotel.
In the morning, departure for our Pinnawala Elephant Orphanage tour. Along the way, we will enjoy a buffet breakfast by the river. Founded in 1975, Pinnawela Elephant Orphanage began with seven orphaned elephants. Today, some of those orphans have had the chance to see their grandchildren born in the same place. The orphanage was initially established primarily for tourism, but soon became a conservation and education centre. During our visit, we will be able to walk alongside the elephants and watch them wash themselves with their trunks. After the tour, we will depart for Sigiriya. Transfer to our hotel and free time to relax. Dinner and overnight stay at our hotel.
Early in the morning, departure for our Sigiriya tour. Prepare to be amazed as we embark on a captivating journey to discover the ancient wonder of Sigiriya, Sri Lanka’s "Lion Rock" fortress! As we approach Sigiriya, we will be greeted by the towering presence of this legendary rock formation. Together, we will climb the magnificent Sigiriya Rock, following steep stairways and ancient paths to the summit. Along the way, we will admire the intricate frescoes adorning the rock face, each offering a glimpse of the artistic brilliance of a bygone era. At the summit, we will be rewarded with breathtaking panoramic views of Sri Lanka’s lush countryside. Together, we will stand atop this ancient fortress where kings once ruled and sought refuge. The ancient fortress and its surrounding gardens will unfold before us as a testament to Sri Lanka’s architectural and engineering skills. Our next stop will be the mysterious Lion Gate, Sigiriya’s most significant feature. Together, we will see the enormous lion paws guarding the entrance, a symbol of the fortress’s magnificent past. As we explore the ruins of the royal palace and admire the intricate water gardens below, we will travel back to an age of wealth and splendour. After the tour, we will return to our hotel for breakfast. We will then depart for our Dambulla Temple tour. As we enter the mystical surroundings of Dambulla, we will be welcomed by the serene atmosphere of this UNESCO World Heritage Site. Together, we will embark on a pilgrimage through five extraordinary cave temples, each a sanctuary of ancient art and spirituality. Dambulla is more than a collection of temples; it is a place of immense historical significance. Together, we will explore the rich history and cultural importance of these caves, where ancient kings sought refuge and left magnificent cave frescoes and statues that continue to inspire us today. Our journey through Dambulla will take us to the heart of Buddhism. Together, we will see intricate cave paintings depicting the life and teachings of Lord Buddha, offering insights into the profound philosophy that has shaped millions of lives. The Spice Garden is also a treasure trove of herbal remedies. We will discover medicinal plants and herbs used in traditional Ayurvedic medicine and learn about their healing properties.
